Vic: Fire at abandoned hotel

Fire severely damaged an abandoned hotel in Melbourne's inner south this morning, causing
hundreds of thousands of dollars damage.

Firefighters took about 30 minutes to control the fire at the old Hollywood Hotel in
St Kilda and were hampered by the condition of the old building, which had been a popular
home for squatters.

A Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services spokesman says one firefighter received
minor injuries to his chest and was later taken to hospital for observation.

He says no-one else was injured in the fire, which started shortly after 12.30am.

Police say the building had been abandoned and the fire is being treated as suspicious.
