FED: Australia set to enter Japanese aged care market
The federal government says Australia has gained a toehold in the $100 billion-a-year aged
care market in Japan.
Aged Care Minister BRONWYN BISHOP returned yesterday after a leading a trade mission to
Japan and Hong Hong aimed at highlighting Australia's expertise as an aged care services
provider.
Mrs BISHOP says leading politicians and officials were impressed with Australia's ability
to deliver high-quality home-based aged care at a reasonable cost.
She says the visit will hopefully enable Australian businesses to forge contacts and fight
off stiff competition from American and Scandinavian aged care service providers.
Japan has a population of 126 million people, 44 million of whom are aged over 65.
