Fed: Spend more money on power system, says Macfarlane

BRISBANE, Feb 24 AAP - Queensland should spend more money on maintaining its electricity
infrastructure and less on dividends to the government, federal Industry Minister Ian
Macfarlane said today.

Premier Peter Beattie has announced an independent review into power supplies in the
state's south-east in response to power outages caused by record temperatures and storms.

Mr Macfarlane welcomed the review today, but added Mr Beattie should also examine the
government's cut from state-owned electricity companies Ergon and Energex.
