QLD: Casting call for cockroaches

The makers of a new $5 million feature length film to be shot on the Gold Coast have
sent out a nationwide call for live cockroaches.

Cubbyhouse will star US actor JOSHUA LEONARD, of The Blair Witch Project, but there'll
be a crawl-on part for up to 5,000 cockroaches.

Producer CHRIS BROWN says cockroaches have been hard to come by because of the season,
so he's prepared to pay 10 cents a cockroach for batches containing a minimum of 25.

Cubbyhouse spokesman ANDREW MACKIE says the creepy crawlies must be at least 3 centimetres
long but can be any colour or sex.

He insists that no acting ability is required.

Mr BROWN says the one advantage about casting cockroaches is that they don't have agents,
aren't temperamental, don't forget their lines and don't have to be paid.

Mr MACKIE says the crucial insect scene will be shot in one day next month and the
cockroaches will then be handed to a pet shop.

Anyone with 25 live cockroaches or more can hand deliver them in clear containers to
SHOES R US at Gatton, or the BUNDALL PETSHOP on the Gold Coast.
