NSW: Minsiter considers two streams of police training

New South Wales Police Minister MICHAEL COSTA has flagged a two-tier police training
program that splits academically inclined people from the trades type people.

His comments follow revelations that almost half the current batch of 400 trainees
failed their exams at the Goulburn Police Academy.

Eighty people are scheduled to resit their exams next month.

Mr COSTA says the failures were recorded in academic and physical based exams, not
psychiatric tests.

He's told ABC Radio that as well as the academic stream, he'd like to see the trades
type person back in the police force under a different program.
